Dr. Janice Cheng
Janice is a licensed clinical psychologist who customizes her approach to the unique needs, goals and aspirations of each client. She draws on diverse therapy orientations such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Humanistic Therapy, Psychodynamic Therapy, Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction, Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy and Buddhist Psychology. A holistic approach underscores her client care, tending to mind, body, feelings and behaviors.
She has worked with a wide range of client issues, such as depression, sadness, anger, anxiety, panic attacks, social anxiety, sleep problems, intrusive thoughts, stress, relationship problems, low self-esteem, cross-generational and cross-cultural problems, trauma and PTSD, hallucinations, delusions, cutting and suicidal ideation.
Janice has a strong belief in interpersonal neurobiology and neuroplasticity, whereby we have the power to change the wiring in our brains for the better to have lasting, positive change. So Janice is eager to support her clients in becoming their best selves by modifying patterns or developing new ones.
Born and raised in historic San Antonio, Texas, Janice headed to New York City to get her B.A. in Foreign Area Studies from Barnard College, Columbia University and later graduated from the Pacific Graduate School of Psychology (now Palo Alto University) in Palo Alto with a M.S. and Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology.Most recently, she worked as a staff clinical psychologist for a residential program serving young adults to seniors.She continues to see clients in her local private therapy practice.Janice has three children and two grandchildren, all living in the San Francisco Bay Area.Outside of work, her favorite activities are sailing, listening to music and seeing movies and plays.
