Dr. Wayne Chan

Approach to therapy:

Dr. Chan is a licensed psychologist who provides psychotherapy for culturally diverse individuals, adults, adolescents, children, couples, families. Dr. Chan procured his Doctorate of Psychology from Argosy University in the San Francisco Bay Area, and obtained his Bachelor of Arts at the University of California, Berkeley. He had also had experience working as a middle school teacher in various settings focusing on inner city and severely emotionally disabled populations. 

Dr. Chan has worked in various clinical and forensic settings, including community mental health clinics, private practice conducting a broad range of psychological testing, dual-diagnosis substance abuse outpatient treatment facilities, trauma/crisis outpatient clinics, state prisons, public schools, University Counseling centers, grief and loss outpatient clinics, geriatric outpatient clinics, and Level-14 Day Treatment/Residential schools. He specializes in post-traumatic growth, identity formation, breaking through stuck points, personality disorders, and relationship concerns. Through his diverse clinical and forensic experiences, he has engaged extensively with victims and perpetrators of abuse, trauma, and violent crimes. In addition, he has had the opportunity to assess and treat varying severities of depression, anxiety, psychosis, anger issues, interpersonal issues, substance abuse issues, impulsivity, self-injurious behaviors, sexual behavioral problems, personality disorders, suicidality, Bipolar Disorders, Domestic Violence, substance abuse/addiction, anger management, and stress. In addition, Dr. Chan obtained multiple specializations and received formal training in evidence-based practices (e.g., Seeking Safety, Moral-Reconation Therapy, and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy); applying interventions working with different clinical and forensic settings.

Dr. Chan’s treatment style includes both short and long-term therapy with the intent on addressing underlying causality of undesirable symptoms. Sessions would include dual agendas of decreasing and increasing; decreasing undesired behaviors, thought patterns, and methods of relating while concurrently increasing new ways of how to move forward. One can expect conversations involving holistic awareness integrating both physical, emotional, and cognitive decision-making. It is with this end that Dr. Chan appreciates witnessing the journey of discovery to fulfill their potential.
