Chiao-Ju Fang, PhD, OTR/L

Dr. Fang is an occupational therapist, not offer psychotherapy services.

I am Dr. Fang, a licensed occupational therapist who has been practicing for more than 13 years. I have worked in hospitals, clinics, schools, and early intervention contexts to serve children and adolescents with developmental, sensory, motor coordination, and behavioral disabilities in both the United States and Taiwan. I grew up in Taiwan and received my Bachelor of Science in occupational therapy from National Taiwan University. I subsequently earned my master’s degree and Ph.D. in occupational therapy from New York University (NYU). I also serve as an assistant professor and bilingual researcher, with expertise in pediatric intervention, school-based practice, and early intervention for children and adolescents with disabilities. The children and adolescents I have seen some have significant medical and/or educational diagnoses, such as autism spectrum disorders (ASD), attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), learning disabilities and sensory processing disorder (SPD), while others have only developmental issues.

I have published and presented nationally and internationally on topics related to how to use play and daily activities to improve participation levels and environmental supports of children and adolescents with disabilities. Such daily activities are often difficult and frustrating for children and adolescents with developmental, sensory, motor coordination, and/or behavioral challenges. The challenges affect not only the child, but also their families. By providing support through occupational therapy (OT), I provide children and adolescents, as well as their families, with the opportunities they need to overcome the many challenges they face in daily life. Children’s and adolescents’ “occupations” are the daily activities they engage in. A child or adolescent participates in all different kinds of occupations throughout the day, including playing, eating, learning, and socializing. My clients range in age from toddlers to teenagers, with most being between 2 and 12 years old. I work closely with parents and others involved in each child’s care, with the goal of providing coordinated and collaborative services that are meaningful for the children and their families.
