Evaluation for Test Accommodations
For SAT / ACT / GRE / GMAT / MCAT / LSAT
What are test accommodations for standardized tests?
Standardized testing is often a requirement or a gateway to educational and employment opportunities. These include the SAT, ACT, GRE, GMAT, MCAT, and LSAT. According to the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), testing entities are required to “offer exams in a manner accessible to persons with disabilities”. Testing accommodations can allow individuals with demonstrated disabilities (e.g. ADHD, Autism Spectrum Disorder, Specific Learning Disorder) to demonstrate their true aptitude. Accommodations can include breaks, extended time, and modifications in test settings.
Please reference ADA.gov for more information. Specifics regarding testing accommodations can be found here.
How do I get accommodations for standardized tests?
Many testing entities (e.g. SAT, GRE) require documentation to determine eligibility for testing accommodations. Licensed clinical psychologists at Mind & Body Garden Psychology can provide individuals with an evaluation to determine the need for testing accommodations. The resulting evaluation report serves as supporting documentation. It will include diagnosis, current information on a student’s educational and developmental history, description of limitations, and recommended accommodations.
This website is for informational purposes only and is not exhaustive. Mind & Body Garden Psychology provides the evaluation and does not guarantee a diagnosis or eligibility for testing accommodations. Individuals are responsible for managing and verifying information related to their own application process.
What does an evaluation involve?
An evaluation may take place over two to three sessions and may include an interview, review of past records (if available), and cognitive and achievement assessments.
If you have previously been diagnosed, but documentation is outdated, we can provide an updated assessment.
If you do not have a previously established diagnosis, we can provide a comprehensive assessment.
What language is the evaluation conducted in?
Test administration must be conducted in English. However, we have Mandarin-speaking clinicians who can assist with the general structure of an appointment. While a Mandarin-speaking clinician may be present and provide general assistance in Mandarin, the test itself will not be translated and must be conducted in English.
How much does an evaluation cost?
Please inquire for a quote. Fees are out-of-pocket. The fee may range from $3000 to $5500 depending on whether a diagnosis was previously established and the documentation requirements of the standardized testing entity. If a diagnosis has been established previously, and you are seeking updated documentation for your application, evaluations are typically less extensive.
When will the results/report be available?
Results are typically available within two weeks from the final testing session. Please let us know if you require a quicker turnaround time, and we will do our best to accommodate your needs.
