Ziuqiu Yan, LMFT

My name is Ziqiu, and I am a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in California. I graduated from the California Institute of Integral Studies (CIIS). My therapeutic approach integrates mindfulness, somatic awareness, and neurobiological perspectives. I have received comprehensive training in mindfulness-based Gestalt Therapy, Hakomi Somatic Therapy, Somatic Couple Therapy, and the Psychobiological Approach to Couple Therapy (PACT). Currently, I provide therapy to adults, couples, adolescents, and families from diverse cultural backgrounds in the San Francisco Bay Area, and I also volunteered as a therapist for children who experienced bereavement.

Throughout my journey as a therapist, I have explored the intersections of family of origin, society, culture, religion, race, gender, and the pursuit of higher spiritual truth (intersectionality). These explorations have expanded my integrative understanding of life and mental health, enabling me to help clients approach inner conflicts with clarity, self-empathy, and self-compassion, creating space for change and meaningful choice. Hence, I identify myself as a culturally sensitive therapist and I welcome welcome clients from diverse backgrounds.

I work with depression, anxiety, trauma, relationship challenges, and life transitions such as career changes, breakups, or grief. At the core, I aim to help clients cultivate deeper awareness, authenticity, and a greater sense of aliveness and connection with themselves and others. “When we are connected to ourselves, we can connect more deeply with others.”

In individual therapy, I help clients uncover unconscious patterns and limiting beliefs, exploring how they manifest in the body and relationships to create lasting change. I am also deeply passionate about working with multicultural couples, supporting partners in understanding relational dynamics, navigating cultural differences and identity, breaking through stuck cycles, and fostering communication, emotional safety, and intimacy.

My personal practices—yoga, Vipassana meditation, T-group (Stanford’s Touchy-Feely), and time in nature—help me stay grounded and enhance the presence I bring to therapy. For me, therapy is not just about alleviating symptoms, but about exploring vulnerability, deepening self-connection, and cultivating the courage to live fully. I invite clients to bring their whole selves into therapy so we can explore challenges, hopes, and possibilities for growth and healing together. “Don’t ask yourself what the world needs. Ask yourself what makes you come alive, and go do that. Because what the world needs is people who have come alive.”

Do you Accept insurance?

Yes!

Kaiser Permanente

Before scheduling psychotherapy or assessment/evaluation services with us, all clients need a verified external referral from Kaiser after their screening. Please contact your Kaiser clinic for processing. If you do not have the referral, Kaiser will not reimburse your fees. If you have an older referral, we advise you to call the clinic to confirm it is still valid.

Other Insurance/Self Pay

We are out-of-network providers for all other insurance companies. If you use our services, you will be expected to pay the full fee yourself. We offer you Superbill receipts for the service you receive from us, and you can submit them to your insurance for possible reimbursement. Most insurance companies may cover part of the fee (50-80% typically) for out-of-network providers like us.
